Professor John Siderov is Head of Department, Vision and Hearing Sciences, Anglia Ruskin University, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Member of the College of Optometrists, UK and was a Founder Member of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics. A graduate in Optometry from the University of Melbourne, Australia, Dr Siderov completed a Clinical Masters Degree in Melbourne and a PhD in physiological optics at the University of Houston, USA. After a post-doctoral fellowship in neurophysiology at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University, Canada and a short period as research fellow in Houston, he returned to Australia to establish the Clinic Research Unit at the then Victorian College of Optometry. In 1997 he moved to the UK to take up a lectureship in Optometry and in 2001 moved to Anglia Ruskin University. Dr Siderov maintains his clinical practice and is a registered optometrist with the General Optical Council, UK and the Optometry Board of Australia. He teaches paediatric optometry and binocular vision and ocular disease for primary eye care optometry. His research interests are in visual function (visual acuity and stereopsis) and in research to develop standard setting procedures in optometry and ophthalmic dispensing.
