Course objective:

Introducing students to the possibilities and architecture of database management system.

Course contents:

Definition of database management system. Architecture of the system. Logical and physical structure of the system. Characteristics, possibilities and types of systems for database management. Navigation, relation and object systems. SQL systems. Data protection. User authentication and authorization. Defining user rights. System implementation and maintenance. An overview of the architecture achieving high availability of DBMS systems. DBMS systems in the cloud.


Student shall be presented with characteristics and possibilities of database management system. Acquisition of skills in the installation and administration of DBMS systems MSSQL, MySQL and Oracle.

Learning outcomes:

Having passed the exam, the student will be able to: 1. Self-evaluate advantages and disadvantages of different types of database management systems. 2. Compare different types of database management systems. 3. Prepare DBMS system installation for various database types. 4. Organize DBMS system settings for regular creation of a database data backup copy. 5. Predict the scenarios of potential problems and errors in the operation of information systems with databases. 6. Plan regular updates of database management system. 7. Create security policy for database management.
