Psychological Aspects of Crisis Management

The objective of the subject is to introduce the students to psychological aspects of various crises, and in which areas of crisis management the psychologists can contribute to the efficient prevention/mitigation/solving of the crises. In addition, psychology with the elements of social and natural sciences has developed various scientific methods, so it is precisely the psychological examples that can induct students into the principles of scientific work. Those principles can be applied very well to the field of crisis management, as well as to the transfer of this knowledge to practical issues.

Psychology of marketing, preparation of powerpoint presentations 4. Communication skills and the principles of successful negotiations 5. Prevention and resolution of conflicts 6. Types of crises from a psychological standpoint 7. Characteristics of successful leaders and leadership in crisis situations 8. Specificities of childhood and advanced age in crisis situations 9. Assembling and principles of functioning of interdisciplinary teams 10. Psychological aspects of natural disasters 11. Psychological aspects of technological disasters 12. Stress and ways of dealing with stress 13. Trauma and recovery from trauma 14. Psychological help during and after a crisis 15. Crisis aspects of serial crime (serial murders, mass murders, arson, vandalism, football hooliganism)
By completing the course the students will acquire general knowledge in psychology and how it is implemented in forecasting, alleviation/solving of the crises and finally in reducing the psychological damage resulting from crises. They will acquire skills to prepare, implement and report on the carried out scientific projects in the area of crisis management. Also, they will obtain the base for multi-disciplinary work in teams composed for optimal approach to crisis management.
After having passed the exam, the students will be able to: 1. Assess professional literature and research projects with psychological elements in the field of crisis management. 2. Choose appropriate promotional actions related to the protection from major accidents and disasters from a set of offered actions. 3. Explain basic symptoms of stress, psychological trauma and crisis. 4. Learn basic procedures of psychological crisis interventions in major accidents and disasters. 5. Recognize the role of experts for psychological help in an interdisciplinary team. The aforementioned learning outcomes contribute to the learning outcomes of the study programme: - Re-examine the sources and origin of business crises - Evaluate specific features and models of crisis management - Use communication skills and various crisis communication strategies - Present their own ideas, attitudes, solutions and projects - Apply acquired knowledge in further professional work and academic education, with appropriate moral and ethical attitude.
