Course objective:

Introduction to the means of testing motor vehicles for the purpose of maintaining their roadworthiness, testing principles and methods.

Course contents:

Basic concepts of motor vehicle testing, measuring instruments and installations. Regulations on motor vehicles: certification regulations, other national and international regulations. Testing of properties: technical inspection of vehicles, traction and braking properties, braking performance, impact of vehicles on the environment, vehicle workload testing. Stationary measurements. Vehicle identification. Vehicle dimensions. Vehicle mass. Bearing capacity. Vehicle centre of gravity. Testing equipment and instruments. Power measurement. Measuring the composition of exhaust gases. Vehicle safety: vehicle stability on and off the road, regulations, overturning and collision. Reliability testing: testing schedules, simulation of working conditions, accelerated testing.


Competence for participating in the preparation and realisation of the process of measuring vehicle performance and its systems, and competence for the complete vehicle testing. Drafting a report on measurements and tests performed.

Learning outcomes:

Having passed the exam, the student will be able to: 1. Organise a technical inspection of motor vehicles. 2. Conduct a roadworthiness inspection of motor vehicles 3. Compare traction and braking properties of a vehicle. 4. Verify the compliance of obtained test results with legal norms. 5. Plan and perform various electrical measurements of physical properties. 6. Propose the application of procedures for measuring the performance of motor vehicles. 7. Organise and manage the control procedures for redesigned vehicles.
