Course objective:

Acquiring the knowledge of human inflicted natural disorders and measures to be taken for the reinstatement of ecological balance.

Course contents:

Definitions, limits and classifications of ecology; ecological entity; population and its parameters; population growth; geographical and ecological areas; ecological niche and valence; habitat, biological community and ecosystems. Industry and society. Trends in industrial development and its impact on the environment. Natural resources and the position of social sciences. Life cycle of an industrial product (origin of raw materials, processing, product service life and its life after disposal). Maintaining the balance between industrial development and the natural ecosystem. Industrial society and climate changes. Water, soil and air as ecological factors. Possibilities of purifying waste air and water. Possibilities of waste and hazardous waste management. Sustainable development and environmental ethics. Education on the elimination of unexpected environmental pollutions. Traffic and the environment. Renewable energy sources and legislation.

Competences:

Basic knowledge of the trends in ecology, types of pollution, industrial and human impact on the climate and environment. Understanding the possibilities of preventing ecological pollution and its elimination. Cognition of the possibilities of purifying waste water and air.

Learning outcomes:

Having passed the exam, the students will be able to: 1. Identify basic ecological concepts and present them in public. 2. Relate patterns and effects of environmental pollution with the focus on ethical responsibility. 3. Present the types of soil, air and water pollution. 4. Present the impact of radiation and economical parameters on the environment. 5. Individually discuss basic laws and regulations in the field of environmental protection. These learning outcomes contribute to the following outcomes of the study program of aircraft maintenance: -Apply the concept of a quality system in an airline company or an aircraft maintenance organisation. -Distinguish responsibilities for the provision of working conditions, task accomplishment and the process of organising aircraft maintenance. -Distinguish and describe professional and ethical responsibility of the human factor in aircraft maintenance. These learning outcomes contribute to the following outcomes of the study programme of motor vehicle maintenance: - Explain the impact of harmful motor vehicle emissions on people, the environment and protective measures. - Analyse the causes and effects of vehicle malfunctions. - Demonstrate professional and ethical responsibility in motor vehicle maintenance
