Course objective:

Revision of English grammar with the aim of its successful use in understanding written and spoken language, upgrading technical terminology, smooth and precise exchange of information within contexts related to various aspects of motor vehicle maintenance, use of technical handbooks and dictionaries.

Course contents:

Grammar and language: Basic tenses and their forms, use of the passive to describe processes, use of adjectives to describe physical properties, position, shapes and dimensions. Professional topics: maintenance, motor vehicle parts and systems.

Competences:

Students will acquire knowledge necessary to read, understand and use technical literature in English. Knowledge of technical terminology. Skills of smooth and precise exchange of information within contexts related to various aspects of motor vehicle maintenance. Communicative competence.

Learning outcomes:

Having passed the exam, the student will be able to: 1. Describe the course of a technical process. 2. Appropriately use grammatical patterns, and particularly the past and present passive forms. 3. Use professional terminology and expressions. 4. Describe physical properties of objects, position, shape and dimensions. 5. Express their own opinion on particular topics in the field of motor vehicle maintenance. 6. Write a shorter text with newly acquired terminology. These learning outcomes contribute to the following outcomes of the study programme: - Use the English language in the reading of professional literature and professional communication. - Demonstrate professional and ethical responsibility in vehicle maintenance. - Recognise the need for lifelong learning and using broader literature in motor vehicle maintenance.
