Course objective:

Acquisition of basic knowledge of English grammar with the purpose of successful usage in understanding written and spoken language. Improvement of the knowledge of professional terminology. Usage of professional manuals. Usage of general and technical dictionaries.

Course contents:

Basic tenses and forms, passive, numbers, formulas, numeric expressions. Basic professional terminology: maintenance (types of maintenance), tools and their use, units of measurement, engineering materials and their properties, safety at work.


Students will acquire necessary knowledge of English language for reading, understanding and use of technical literature in English.

Learning outcomes:

Having passed the exam, the student will be able to: 1. Appropriately use grammatical patterns, present and past tenses etc. 2. Form new words, using prefixes and suffixes, and plurals correctly. 3. Use professional terminology and phrases. 4. Write a shorter text using newly acquired terminology. These learning outcomes contribute to the following outcomes of the study programme: - Use the English language in the reading of professional literature and professional communication. - Demonstrate professional and ethical responsibility in vehicle maintenance. - Recognise the need for lifelong learning and using broader literature in motor vehicle maintenance.
