Objective of course of lectures: Students will learn and analyse issues in the field of waste and garbage management

Content of course of lectures: Definition of concept of waste and waste management, integral system of environment and human health protection. Types and quantities, volume and management system: systems of analysis of waste and the waste management system. Sanitary gathering of utility and technological (production) waste, separated water collection with waste flow monitoring, record keeping and documentation. Measures for reduction and avoiding of waste, such as: primary waste recycling, secondary waste recycling, biological processing procedures, thermal processing procedures, mechanical processing and combined processing procedures. Separated collection of problematic material and hazardous waste, recycling procedures and treatment procedures. Hazardous waste handling. Waste management in medical institutions. Waste temporary storage and deponing, and permanent waste deponing. Managing special types of waste (waste silt, oily waste, construction waste), risks in waste handling. Ecotoxicological balance of waste management system and legislation. Waste handling programme. Education and PR.

General and specific competences (knowledge and skills): After the course attended and the exam passed, students will be qualified for operational tasks in waste management, and tasks related to field work, especially in incidents.
