Objective of course of lectures: Acquired basic elements of mathematical language, acquired mathematical thinking, enabled to model problems by use of basic mathematical structures.

Content of course of lectures: MATHEMATICAL LANGUAGE. Symbols and variables. Closed and open descriptions. Conditions, equations and equation systems. MATHEMATICAL STRUCTURES. Sets, relations and functions. Numbers. Vectors. Matrices. Graphs. FUNCTIONS. Concept of function – function rule, function graph, domain, value set. Continuity. Function sign. Increase, decrease and extremes. Curves and folding points. ELEMENTARY FUNCTIONS. Linear function. Square function. Polynoms and rational functions. Roots and involutions. Exponential and logarythm functions. Trigonometric and arcus functions. THE MATHEMATICS OF CHANGE. Concept of derivation. Concept of undefined and defined integrals. Exponential growth. Harmonic oscillator. PROBLEMS OF OPTIMUM. Linear problems. Non-linear problems.

General and specific competences (knowledge and skills): Reading, understanding and use of mathematical language, knowledge of the basic mathematical objects (equations, numbers, vectors, matrices, graphs, functions, elementary functions, derivation, integral), modelling of true problems by means of these objects, especially the problem of optimum.
