Objective of course of lectures: To offer students knowledge on modern spectacle frames and lenses enabling an efficient application of optical tools, as well as the theoretical basis of their application.

Content of course of lectures: 1. Physical basics (Mechanics – uniform motion, circular motion, force, weight, frictional force, lever and lever law, work, energy, power; Warmth and temperature, Pressure) 2. Elementary chemistry (Structure and elements, Atom model, Chemical elements and compounds, molecules and ions, equilisation of reaction, Analysis and synthesis, pH values, types of connections, strukture of metal, acids and bases, oxidation and reduction, corrosion, polymerisation) 3. Electrotechnical basics (effect of electric power, basic electric measures, types of electric lines, electric work and power, dangers of electric power, protection measures, breakers, power sockets) 4. Technological basics (Mechanical requirements, tension, hardness and examination, construction of metal alloys and pure metals).

5. Metal materials (iron and steel materials, copper, aluminium, zinc, tin, titan, chrome, lead, special materials, alloys, metal frame requirements, precious metals, golden double, galvanic stratification) 6. Plastics and natural materials used in frames (construction and division, thermoplasts and duraplasts, cellulose-base materials used in frames, cellulose-free plastics used in frames, industrial production of frames, recognition of materials and frames according to production type, corrosion of plastic materials, natural materials used in frames) 7. Glass  (condition of glass, optical characteristics of frames, production of glass for mineral lenses in spectacles, production of raw edge glass for spectacles, tolerance of material and production of spectacle glass, materials for mineral glass, stratification of mineral glass for spectacles, hardening of mineral lenses for spectacles) 8. Plastics (Materials for organic lenses in spectacles, stratification of organic glass for spectacles, organic glass with reduced effect).

General and specific competences (knowledge and skills): Students will be able to distinct various materials, use tables and standard markings, as well as technical documentation. They wil learn about basic types of materials and their characteristics, and their application in practical work in work places; also they will learn to handle and store various technical materials taking care of their sensitivity to impacts, acids and danger to health. The aim is to develop in students interest in self-educating and learning about new developments in technology of optical materials and frames, through professional literature.
