Objective of course of lectures: To inform students of the basic characteristics of terrorism as the most serious threat to peace and security in the world. To inform them about terrorist organisations and modes of operations, to present them examples of terrorist operations, with the emphasis on non-conventional terrorism. To clarify the concepts and essence of diversions and sabotages. To enable students to learn the basic rules of management in protection and rescue in case of terrorism.

Content of course of lectures:

The concept and manifestations of terrorism. Terrorism as a global challenge. Organisations and organisers – stakeholders in terrorism. Modus operandi of terrorists. Examples of terrorist operations. The threat of terrorism to the world order. Anti-terrorism – anti-terrorist policy. United Nations and terrorism. Terrorism on September 11, 2001. Croatia and the anti-terrorist coalition. Non-conventional terrorism. Non-conventional weapons. Terrorism risk assessment. Characteristics and some aspects of prevention, disclosure and solving of cases of diversions and sabotages. Examples of sabotages in industry.

General and specific competences (knowledge and skills):

Students will acquire knowledge necessary for the understanding of the nature of terrorism, diversions and sabotages. They will be qualified to take part in the process of prevention and protection against terrorist attacks.
