Objective of course of lectures: To enable students to understand the system of civil defence in the Republic of Croatia and the European Union, and to qualify them to operate in crisis conditions.

Content of course of lectures: The concept and tasks of civil defence. Place and role of civil protection in the national defence system. Use of civil defence in war times and crises. Subsystems of civil defence: civil protection, monitoring, alerting and alarming systems, voluntary vocational protection and rescue organisations (Red Cross, voluntary fire brigades, radio amateurs, mountain rescue service…). Corporations, whose daily activities contain certain defence and rescue content, civil defence educational system. Armed forces and civil defence. NATO and civil defence. Civil defence in modern society. Legal regulations on civil defence in the Republic of Croatia and the EU.

General and specific competences (knowledge and skills):

Students will acquire knowledge necessary for the understanding of civil defence system and will be qualified to act within the civil defence system in crises.
